I haven't said anything good about Taiwan's politics in ages, for obvious reasons. However, the liveliness of Taiwan people in politics is something to be admired by any democracy. And as locals here are good enough to shoot my performances time and again, I thought to return the favor.
Yong Lea 楊烈 is running for a DPP legislative seat, representing Beitou, where this shaky vid is shot, and other areas. Well, as part of his campaign, he sings "Unchained Melody".
Of course, being completely apolitical in Taiwan as I am a foreigner (I hope the Executive Yuan and the Council of Labor Affairs realize this when considering my appeal against being deported away from my son for three years as punishment for working for the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy at the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), I am not too concerned about what Yong Lea had to say. However, I was concerned about his rendition of "Unchained Melody". And of course, I was anticipating the same thing as most everyone else who knows this song -- will he hit that high note toward the end or will he cop out like Bono did when covering the song with U2?
One must deliver and hit that high note at the end. The rest of the song doesn't really matter so much, but the high note is where the climax lies.
Pardon the shakiness of the vid. If it makes you motion sick, simply listen and don't watch, which is what I had to do eventually.
