Fargen Mighty Plex MK1 into a Vox 2X12 cabinet with 1 Celestion G12H30 and 1 Eminence The Tonker. The guitar is an Epiphone Riviera Jorma Kaukonen with Seymour Duncan 59's humbuckers.
Settings were: Master a bit under 9 o'clock (my normal band rehearsal volume), Gain at 3 o'clock, Treble at 3 o'clock, Mid and Bass at 12 o'clock.
I always run this amp in the 70's mode but I'm switching to 60's around the end of this video.

  • Hi. That's a great tone man. I'm considering buying this amp. Could you tell me what amount of gain I can reach with it? I play mostly blues and classic rock. Regards.

  • @DudVince Thank you. Well there isn't that much gain on tap compared to the Olde 800 MK2 that has an extra preamp tube that can give you a hot rod plexi sound (Van Halen? Angus Young's lead tone). With the gain maxed out on mine I get a light ACDC rythm crunch. It also depends on the tubes. I've tried a hot rod set from Groove Tubes. It had way more gain but sounded too compressed for my taste. Anyway, I love this amp 'cause I can put any kind of fuzz/dist in front of it without shocking it.

  • It sounds nice ! Why did you mix those speakers ? Have you ever tried tour rig with the Tonker only ?

  • @jp6l6 The Tonker is really loud. I use it to avoid choking my amp when I use my fuzz pedals. I have the impression that this speaker never compress (off course it does but not like a less efficient speaker). That being said the Tonker can sometimes be too loud in small clubs.

  • weird, i thought the 70s mode should have more gain and high and compared to the 60s mode, but you say it is the other way around? i guess 60s mode will muddy up more when cranked and then get more bassy. but i liked both sounds.. not much difference got transported thru the camera and youtube.

  • @GeekG on my amp the 60's mode is definitely brighter and has more gain. Off course Youtube doesn't really do justice. I'll make some more clips with a SM57 in front.

  • Had a chance to play one of these in store, just bought one on ebay. Great amp indeed.

  • Hi there. I'm looking at getting the MPMK2. Would you say yours was loud enough to rehearse with (assuming 100+ dB speakers, say 2x12)? Thanks!

  • @thedallasexplosion Thanks for answering. I found a custom Fargen dual channel, with blackbird and mighty plex channels. I I'm looking for sparkling and full clean sound and also organic, dynamic and articulate overdrive, but not so much gain, that works fine with pedals and can cut through the mix when playing with a band. I've got a Rivera R30, but it has a different sound, much darker and the drive is not so articulated. Thanks again.

  • @jorgepavel they're only good mixed together in my opinion. These days I sometimes mix a greenback and a G12H30 for smaller venues 'cause the Tonker is really loud.

  • which speaker is better, the tonker or the g12h30???
