I had never heard of Stacy Phillips until last week, when I heard him play fiddle at the Sounding Board. Last night I heard him a second time, again at the Sounding Board, and my first impression was right. Stacy's music is cross-pollinated from a wide variety of musical traditions. He has the musical gift of being able to play in diverse traditions well; staying true to the tradition yet with unexpected phrasing, ornamentation, and rhythms. See him if you get the chance.
