  • Their intonation is all over the place, but no matter: they're students and will improve with time. Where this video completely surpasses the only commercial recording (on Tudor) is in the dynamics. Raff carefully balanced the sound so the cello is always heard, but allowed the tuttis to really shout, as heard here. In the commercial recording, the engineers, fearing the cello will be swamped, banish the orchestra to the green room. Alas, no big tuttis on the CD.
