Swordofisis, they used the name "Ares" to express the hope that the system will be the foundation of a manned Mars ( Roman name for the Greek Ares ) program. It has nothing to do with military intent.

Ah, So aptly named! In Greek mythology, Ares is one of the Twelve Olympians, a son of Zeus and Hera. Known as the Olympian god of warfare, he is more accurately the god of bloodlust, or slaughter personified. It kinda makes you wonder if that thing is really designed to go to the moon, doesnt it? I mean it looks more like an ICBM to me! I wonder, could that thing could be used for other more nefarious purposes? I mean, With all that's going on in the world, is this really what they say it is?

I know times are tough, but shouldn't America remain committed to exploration and advancement? The President seems to not understand that there is something of a covert space race going on with China, India, Russia, and Europe all seeking to displace us on the ultimate high ground.
