Thanks this could help me for the sewing machines that are in my class.

@lcvday Yeah, when I first started FMQ I thought the only reason I wasn't having success was because I did not have a stitch regulator - I thought a Stitch regulator was a must-have! Now, I know the only thing I needed was a darning foot (LOL) I was a mess. Now I feel I stitch pretty good with my limited resources. I think if I could get a high-speed motor machine I could do much better...

You can use high heels instead of a book.

I have a speed regulator on my juki (same machine you have)....
and I LOVE it...... and it DOES speed up when it should, and slow down when it should according to the speed i am stitching.
I would HIGHLY recommend a speed regulator. They are not cheap though..... so that may play a big part in your decision!!

Yes, a stitch regulator can help in the beginning, when you're just getting used to free motion quilting.
But as you get faster and more confident with your stitching, often the stitch regulator will not allow you to go fast ENOUGH, causing your stitches to widen noticeably.
Of course, it's always a personal choice, but I stand by my opinion that any quilter can learn how to regulate the stitches in free motion with practice and patience.
Let's go quilt!
