As part of the Marc Davis Celebration of Animation, the Academy presented a centennial celebration of Milt Kahl: The Animation Michelangelo.

This taped tribute was recorded by animator Richard Williams in London, and was presented as the closing tribute on the day of the show, April 27, 2009.

Note: The 20 minute screening of "The Thief" at Skywalker Ranch (as mentioned by Dick in the video) was later discovered by Robert Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg, who at the time were searching for an animation director for "Who Framed Roger Rabbit."

  • I can't believe he actually named "The Thief" in this video. If only he would give us more information about it.

  • I love the way Richard Williams rubs his hand like a Mad Genius.

    And he kind of is.

  • Amazing artists and with amazing personalities. what else can I say?

  • Both of them are my great animation mentors....

Richard Williams is an icon!!! Milt Kahl...what can we say bout him? THE BEST!!!!

THANK YOU MILT, THANK YOU RICHARD!

  • @BroadwayRULZ I know, its amazing! I guess hes not too depressed about his movie anymore. But, as far as him talking more about it or attempting to revive it, i wouldnt count my chickens b4 they hatch.

  • Richard was very lucky to actually hang out and talk to the greats in animation. I'm so envious.
