Whiskey walks us through the steps of how to teach a pet rat to spin by voice command.

When trying this, don't spend too long training the rat each day, 5 minutes a day is long enough and even at that they are clever enough to pick this up in a few days. This is important too to make sure they are not over-fed during training.

Also don't be in too much of a hurry to move on a step, take time to get the rats used to each stage so that they can understand what is expected of them. Best to basically let your rat dictate how quickly they learn it.

Finally, whiskey made the "step" videos today when he can already spin really well, so if the stages look "too neat" i appologise, especially stage three :P. He's just not used to having so much help with the spins anymore.

  • My rats won't eat outside there cage how do i start that?

  • Your rat is cute :)

  • I've done this with my rat for about 30 minutes but all she just waits until my hand comes back around and then tackles my hand!!

  • I tried teaching my rat spin and not even a quarter of the way into the turn he stops and looks at me. its so cute, but yet he can do other tricks like stand, paw, and only holding up one paw. I'm even trying to teach him the difference between left and right, and other complex tricks. he is doing fine with them but will just not learn spin its so cute and funny. :)

  • @m1i2r3i4a5m6wolpert Tip: rats are insectivores, not omnivores, they have no canines and can not digest meat fats. insectivores just automtically get thrown in with omnivores but they are two different things. rats can eat fish and bugs, but no meats like chicken and beef. eatting it causes a 90% increased chance of tumors and cancer. all my rats are vegens (minus having yogurt) and my 16 month old male acts like he's only about 3-5 months, which for rats is a big difference.

  • @DemonBunnie143 yea i know i said "my mom said i can get pet ratS..." (emphasis on the 'S' in ratS) :)

  • @m1i2r3i4a5m6wolpert You need to get two! not just one(:!!!

  • my mom said i can get pet rats because i have been doing well in school...so excited!!!

  • That is so darling! <3 I am getting rats when I get accepted to nursing school, so I can have some friends to keep my spirits up for those three years. Rats are wonderful.
