Rescue crews are shown here searching for 41-year-old Clifford Achenbach and his wife, Denise, 42, who lived in the West Bangor section of Plainfield Township. The rescue crew is seen crossing Maine's Moosehead Lake in boats after a helicopter spotted the couple about 12:45 p.m. Monday. You can also see one of two rescue planes cross in front of the camera. Fifteen game wardens also assisted in the search, which began at 7:30 a.m. with a missing person's report.
The couple's bodies were found frozen in the ice near a dam on the lake's East Outlet. More details here: http://tinyurl.com/d6j2gu
Im planning a trip to moosehead in feb 2010. Are you local? If so, what can you tell me about where to avoid and where its safe on the lake. I did some research. East outlet Dam is responsible for a few deaths. Were sstaying in Rockwood and the woman onthe phpone told me that its safe to cross over to kineo, then we can split the trip into two days around the lake. One day across the lake then north, next day south....is that reasonable.....any inpput would be appreciated
