@grimtango5280 you don't account for it, you just don't make the stupid mistake of launching in high winds. You look at a weather report before hand and cancel if it's too windy. Pretty simple. Balloonists do it all the time.

But really its their own fault. Sad or not. They spent $10 MILLION on the project and didn't account for wind drift?? didn't have any measure of controlling the drag?? I mean seriously thats not even science. Its common sense.
