A video demonstrating how I carpet my fiberglass sub boxes. I am no expert at this but there is not much info about this kind of upholstery available. So I thought this is better then nothing.

The carpet used is unbacked automotive carpet. If its unbacked its pliable to bend to curves etc.

A box made with MDF is different. Edges means you have to have seams showing.

  • How do you make the mold to make that sub box? If it fiberglass put over plastic in the trunk then molded over to get the final item?

  • @ajdgamer You talking about a different type of mold and is not covered in these videos.

  • Good upload, thanks for this. There really isn't enough material on custom carpeting.

  • How do you get the carpet to shrink in the corners and not bunch up?

  • He's no expert, but he's got sub carpeting on a roll???

  • does it matter if a sub box is carpeted or not? does it make any sound difference?

  • @ajdgamer He probably starts with an empty trunk, fiberglasses about 4 layers of the negative side. Once that hardens he takes it out and makes a speaker ring out of mdf. He holds the ring in place with dowels or scraps of wood and then covers with a stretchy material. the fiberglasses over the top a few layers, and then fiberglasses the inside. He bondo's and sands the box to create a perfect master, and then makes all other boxes from this master. I'm guessing.
