There are two approaches to mathematical infinity. It can be seen as defining limiting cases that can never be realized or as existing in some philosophical sense. These mathematical approaches parallel approaches to meaning and value that I call absolutist and evolutionary. The absolutist sees ultimate meaning as something that exists most commonly in the form of an all powerful infinite God. The evolutionary sees life and all of a creation as an ever expanding journey with no ultimate or final goal. There is only the journey. There is no destination. This video argues for an evolutionary view in our sense of meaning and values and in our mathematical understanding. There is a deep connection between the two with profound implications for the evolution of consciousness and human destiny. • I didn't get any sound at all on your video

  • No one else had had that complaint so I suspect the problem is at your end. A better version (higher frame rate) is available on Google Video at the URL at end of the description of this video. (YouTube will not let me include the URL here.)

  • I choose to have no comment on the content of this video, to avoid argument, and opt to say, only:

    OTTERS!!! XD

  • Surely you don't mean that no mathematical system can define the set of all reals but that no mathematical system can define all reals.

    -

The reals can in fact be mapped onto the integers; the integers cannot be mapped onto the reals.

It seems you make necessary mathematical truth depend on contingent biological evolution. If so, you can hardly be right on that.

  • Maybe the hairless apes should take a step off their home world before they make comments on infinity. Im just saying when you know nearly nothing about the universe around you making broad claims about said universe is unwarranted.

  • what a waste of time. infinity is a made up value created by our imaginations. it is not real.

  • I mean, I took up to diffy Q and I have no idea what he's talking about.

  • When you talk about how the "Most beautiful" Is not a singularity but rather, relative. There will ALWAYS be something "More beautiful" Hence making what your conscious state relativly nothing compared to what could be.. and THIS WILL ALWAYS BE TRUE...

It is literally my dream, that I can teach this concept to people, to show them what infinity is... it IS existence

  • I wish more people were like this :/

What you are saying is beautiful =( I just wish that people like me and you could actually explain "infinity" to people, actually show them the implications this has...

  • The real question is: What is reality then?

That is sort of the point though, that there is no 1 reality, the frame of reference changes the perception of events which we can talk about as singularities.

I rather just not ask questions like "what is reality" and "what is the point of it"

I rather use an anthropic viewpoint and just learn about math and its implications on me.

  • :)

reality is something that cant be described by words or understandable by mental imagery cos when you put it in a limited image, you discribe something that reality is not(limited).

but reality can be felt through stillness of brain/mind, through awareness and alertness,

but sadly it will be still indescribable..if you try to describe what is like to eat strawberry or any fruit to some1 who never ate it, you can talk for hours, days but you cant describe it to point that he feels it.

    peace.

  • The real question is: What is reality then?

    ;)

    Peace

Yeah, the best time is now for sure.
