I optimized the sampling of the god rays as my friend CGAddict said. I first wasn't sure why there were sampling artifacts, so I tried

a) higher resolution shadow map
b) variance shadow maps sampling
c) adaptive sampling depending on the proximity of the sample to the viewer.

a) and b) did not remove the artifacts at all. however, the adaptive sampling finally lead to the desired result.

  • awesome!

  • So this is not the same godrays shaders. I can see the lightshafts hitting the hill at the left around 0:08. So did you bind it to shadow maps or some kind of ray tracing?

    It looks really nice.

  • Man that looks really nice. Great job !
