Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) Visions de l'amen (1943) V. Amen des anges, des saints, du chant des oiseaux ("Amen of the Angels, of the Saints, of Bird Song") Piano 1: Yvonne Loriod (1924-2010) Piano 2: Olivier Messiaen Recorded in 1962
I love the Visions as well as the Vingt Regards, the Preludes, the Quatre Etudes de Rhythme, the Quator pour la fin du temps, and the La Nativite du Seigneur...amazing music. Of course, it is to be taken in small doses at a time. (;-D) Amazing performance here!
I've always found the Messiaen/Loriod recording of this masterpiece to be a bit rough-and-ready - but so full of energy and character. Extraordinary music!
Honestly I've never had any sympathy with his compositions, I am interested in "synesthesia", some people say that Messian had this ability. He tried to express colours which he "heard" using musical notes.
Superb!
