More then 3/4 of Canadians owns computers, but when your system crushes who you going to call? And can you trust the advise you get? Post your comments on complaintsboard.com
So this video's been around for a while, but the one thing they don't realize is that the technicians who DO get it right (their bit not shown here, this is abbreviated) are not charging unreasonable prices for their time and expertise. If I recall right, one only had a ~$60 stick of RAM on hand - and was going to charge only that - and they call that gouging. Quite frankly, to have someone come into your home, you really can't expect the labour to be free and get off for $25 for the part alone.
Not all mobos give out beep errors anymore, some dells flash lights, other mobos have led codes that display(took them long enough). In any event to understand what these codes mean you need the manual. Not defending these guys they should of figured it out. It's troubleshooting 101.
In my (non professional) experience, I have never encountered a bad CPU. I had issues with every other component down to the jumper pins of those old IDE drives, but never the CPU. I think bad mobos are much more likely.
Memory failure is very typical... Yes memory tests will usually show the memory problem, but those tests don't run quick. 1 pass could take over an hour and if the first passes you need to run several more to make sure. Bad motherboards could show memory failure even though the memory is fine as well. Solving hardware problems is trial and error. I had to replace my mobo recently on a system from '06, but thought it was memory initially due to memtest showing errors.
someone calls me up to their house and i find out they purposely screwed up their computer just to see if i charge them too much. Dont waste peoples time. Yes those prices were crazy, 2000 dollars. They changed the RAM, in order for us to know the RAM is bad, we need to run tests that take hours(time + money), bad RAM could be mistaken as motherboard or CPU since they have identical symptoms. A computer with bad RAM, can actually screw up the CPU and hard drive, as its sending out bad data.
