Winner of the Best Outreach Resource of the Year by Outreach magazine. Senior Pastor Bill Hybels encourages us with simple steps and powerful stories to change a life forever by something as simple as just walking across the room.
We have just finished the 4 week course at my Church. I went to all 4 and I have to say that it made things easier for me than I thought. You can and should, just 'be yourself' and see what God might do as you interact with others. It highlights the need to be sincere, and to 'not be judgemental.' It also advises you 'keep your own testimony fairly short and concise, practised' and ready to share for as and when, and people can always ask more about you if they want.' Loved it - 'God is Great'
Sugar coating the Gospel does not convict people. Be straight forward, people are looking for us to be real, but that does not mean we need to give them sugar coated speeches.
tedted33, you're leaving out a critical piece of the puzzle. Some people are aware of something missing in their lives, and are willing to hear anything that might fill the void. If we ask God to direct us to people who are willing to hear and receive, then He will lead us to those people. If I spend all of my time reaching out to people who don't want to hear about God, then I'm wasting my time and being a poor steward of the Gospel. Many people desire the truth...they reject the sugar coating.
Second, ask Jesus how easy it was to teach the Gospel. It is not about finding an easy way to tell people the truth. It is not about you. It is about Jesus and glorifying him. If people do not respond and repent God will still get glory on judgement day. God is in control of who becomes a Christian. Your words do not open peoples heart the Holy spirit does. All we can do is plant seeds and God will do the rest. So, if people get offended so what you were obidient and that is what matters.
It will never be simple to share the true Gospel unless you sugar coat it. Man's nature despises God and hates him. Man want to do what their flesh desires. To tell someone that their desires do not matter and that they need to turn from their desires and worship Jesus even if it costs them everything will never be easy. If you think I'm wrong maybe you need to read the Bible and learn how easy it was for the apostles. Since all of them where killed but John I think they would agree with me.
