A severe thunderstorm of wicked proportions approaching and developing overhead, showing complex circulation patterns and tornado-spawning rolling wall clouds. Earlier in the day thunderstorms to the west had spawned a tornado that touched down near Sundre Alberta. This movie was taken from my yard east of Calgary. There was lots of lightning happening and a couple of bolts are captured at the end. The strong outflow winds can be seen blowing the grass around. I kept shooting until the rain starting pelting the camera and the wall of rain began to arrive. Then it was run for cover!

This was shot with a 10mm wide-angle lens. Next time, I shoot with a faster frame rate -- things were changing too fast for the one-frame per 10 second rate I was using.

  • That was wonderful!!

  • Great video! I just started playing with the time lapse feature on my JVC camera, and have been trying to catch storms too. I was wondering if you were going to rescue your camera before the rain hit. LOL
