Massive Quake Hits Pakistan

ANCHOR:
A massive 6.4 Magnitude earthquake has just stuck the southwest of Pakistan. More than 100 are already dead and hundreds more are flocking to nearby hospitals. The quake brought down hundreds of mud walled homes, and authorities are expecting the death toll to rise.

STORY:
The quake struck early at 5:10am Pakistan time, hitting 60 kilometres (40 miles) northeast of Quetta, in South West Pakistan. Pakistans Meteorological Department said the two tremors struck before dawn, and the second one was bigger than the first.

Hospital staff and officials said scores of people are injured. Most when their homes collapsed or in the panic when rushing from their homes.

Large parts of south Asia are seismically active because a tectonic plate known as the Indian plate is pushing north into the Eurasian plate.
