The band was formed in 1980 by Mike McGuire (vocals) and Pete Jostins, with various others contributing in their early days. This was their first single on their own Chant label and a more innovative band you wouldn't come across.John Peel invited them twice onto his Peel Sessions and they also aapeared on the Old Grey Whistle Test.
Thanks to Gary of Leyton Orient groundstaff for introducing me to this song on a D-90 tape.
I never made it to Jane's third party but her fourth one was extraordinary.

  • If it brings anyone comfort, perhaps they didn't achieve world-wide fame but here's one fan they've had since the 80's from the U.S.

Thank you, denitopoopy. You know a good band-and song- when you hear it. :-)

  • They are an unknown band for me and I'm very surprised that this song was made in 1980. It sounds as the bands of 60s, for example Kinks.

Rhythms, tunes and lyrics are all first class in my opinion.

Did they ever get the success they would deserve?

  • @SweetSmoke21

I see what you mean about the 60s. In fact this was very much an early 80s sound too. Particularly the keyboards. They were much admired within the circles they played in, but, no, they didn't achieve national success. But then 'small' can also be 'big' ... and in their own way, they were 'big'. Certainly 'cult'. A lot of their work after this song was what is called 'Techno Rock' and their albums were very imaginative and off-beat. Thank you for your feedback. :-)

  • Exceptional. Thank you very much.

  • @esspaul

Thank you for listening and I second the exceptional.

Thanks,I echo your sentiments.Yes, It would be wonderful to see a cd of their music.

  • Superb stuff. I recognise the installation from the ICA, circa 1086/87.

Although I have all the vinyl, it's about time some of this was transferred to CD format.

Already indoctrinated my kids with teh Rocky Sway Stuff. The rest of the world needs to know about them.

    Thanks for posting.

  • It certainly is.

I owe much to the groundsman at Leyton Orient FC, a man of remarkably good taste.

    Gary! ... where are you?

  • Thanks for that.

Boy do I love this song.
