I don't see this as a sad song despite being called "Tristesse", I interpret it as a new beginning. Very beautiful piece.

As everybody is making this stupid coments, I will start a new type of comments:
Hear the music will you are waking up in the middle of the night,
the moon is shining big and lonely over the peaceful dark sea.
The sand is cold and smooth, the beach is empty except for you,
