VICTORIA -- A British Columbia shipyard has won an $8 billion Federal shipbuilding contract.
Seaspan Marine Corporation of North Vancouver has been given the non-combat portion of the shipbuilding.
It's a distant second-place to the $25-billion in Navy ship construction that went to Irving Shipyards in Halifax.
The $8 billion will mean a lot of work for people in shipyards on Vancouver Island and on the mainland.
The construction of the ships will be done primarily in North Vancouver, where 80% of the workforce will be.
The other 20% of the work including trials and finishing will happen in Esquimalt, says Seaspan.
