06/25/2009: I grew up listening to Michael, he is one of the reasons why I love music...
I recorded this groove because I just love to listen to The Jacksons Live album and I've been doing it for years.
I dedicate this video to Michael.

Thank you Michael,
Rafael Dolinski =(

A quick clip from one of my favorite grooves ever, "Shake your body down to the ground" from The Jacksons.
The hi-hat openings are great and I've been trying to get this groove right for a long time. Ed Greene recorded the original drums for this song.

This is another great version from "The Jacksons Live" with Jonathan Moffett playing drums: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vat-QP24q3A

  • this pattern is in rick latham's 'advanced funk studies' for those that don't know...cracking book

  • @gabsmabs62 Yeah, I studied Rick's book, excellent book. There is also Contemporary Drumset Techniques from him too.

  • Great!

  • @MissFroggers Thanks!

  • Damn!!! You nailed it! I always thought it was like 2 or 3 drummers doing that track.

    Absolutely gorgeous playing man!

  • @turntapzap By the way, Ed Greene added the toms as a overdub; Sugarfoot live version is complete, I tried to emulate the 1981 version

  • @turntapzap Thank you!

  • @DuggerMan I love that track too. Sugarfoot always rock with MJ.

  • @1982Rafael

The tom parts in Human Nature were overdubbed, too? Interesting. Not many drummers can play that song correctly, either. Sugarfoot is the only drummer I've ever heard or seen who plays that song exactly the way it is on the record. Most drummers play the tom parts with their kick drum.

  • @actiondown Thanks! I'll work on that pattern.
