At the time this video was posted, I've been seriously studying guitar for 18 months, and I hope the practice shows between my last video 9 months ago and this one. This is my first cut at a somewhat technical version of the classic hit. I've seen several ways to play the tune, but I chose this particular version because it puts you all over the fretboard.

It was a fun challenge, but I still have a few improvements to make. There are obvious flubs on the solo and tone as a whole could be more robust.

Going back to practice, of course. I want to give a stronger, more blusey feel to the solo and a second run will be out soon.

I left the vocals to the talented Van Morrison. It's one thing to play; it's another thing altogether to try to sing. It's yet another thing above that to do the vocals any justice.

Comments welcome, but keep them constructive. Neanderthal-level posts simply won't appear.

Aloha.

  • I played one recently that a guy brought back from a visit over there. They are so well made that Fender won't allow them to be sold in the US for fear of undermining their own sales.

  • I gotta agree. I'm just a beginner, but I could tell the difference between US-made and JP-made Strats. The feel is totally different; the JP-made Fenders fit me better. The model I play is a mid-range. Absolutely love it.

  • Is that a Japan Fender?

  • Yep. A local model.

  • I grew up liking this song, and I like the way you play it..but I would like to clarify for all guitarists who start off playing rock, and are interested in jazz... this in no way is even close to jazz guitar.I found that out the hard way. no jazz guitarist would think of playing all 6 strings at once,ON the beat, and exactly on the beat ..ouch. If you like jazz guitar, may I suggest that you listen to some Joe Pass comping behind Ella Fitzgerald, now that's some real stuff there.
