Grammy and Emmy Award winner Cyndi Lauper performs "Solomon Song" in Roundabout Theatre Company's Broadway revival of The Threepenny Opera (Music by Kurt Weill; Book and Lyrics by Bertolt Brecht; Translation by Wallace Shawn). Note how she references Lotte Lenya and even Marlene Dietrich while still preserving her own performance style.

  • THANK YOU IMMENSELY

This is the only footage I've seen of the actual performance besides press reels.

I saw this in previews and can't stand there not being a cast recording!

  • I agree! Regardless of the production's mixed reception, it's a shame not to have performances like Cyndi's, Ana Gasteyer's, Jim Dale's and Christopher Innvar's preserved. I keep hoping Cyndi will record one of the songs on her own CD.

  • And now we have our dear MacHeath his life hangs by a hair As long as he refused to yield to girls who showed a sensual flair He was a leader in his field A clever thing fell for the bait Apparently when day was done he needed love, he couldnt wait His strong libido ended all his... fun How lucky ones who lack that trait! La la La la La la
  • Courageous Ceaser climbed the heights but didn't end so well Insisting he was that divine he made Rome great at the sound of his bell They burned his corpse and [this is the only lyric I cant figure out] O Brutus! he cried as he met his fate I treated you just like a son. His death was cruel beyond debate His courage didnt bring him too much fun Oh lucky ones who lack that trait La la La la La la

  • Why peopled doubted her is beyond me. She has been awarded grammys for her singing and Emmys for her acting...

  • @trbronthestage

Hey I was wondering where you got the lyrics?

Been looking but only finding partials thanks!

It's sad that the production was so ill-conceived. These performers could have been made much better use of.

  • I was very skeptical about this production, especially the casting of some non-musical theatre singers in these roles. But she completely won me over with her performance of this song. So sensitive and sincere.

  • It was a privilege to see this production , in previews and I was horrified to find there were no cast recordings of this amazing vision brought to life , chiefly, due to the efforts Alan Cumming , I think . Great cast , great performances .........................

  • she's been great since day one. that voice can do anything and she knows

how to interpret songs. ( streisand and midler used to be able to do this too).

i wish she was chosen to be norma desmond in the movie of "sunset blvd".

love to see her work with ellen greene as well. another one who kept

    her vulnerability in her voice.

  • Superior even to Ute Lemper's version. Is there a studio recording?

  • Years ago-Sting did a NYC production, and that was not recorded either !

  • Thank you soooo much!

How could there be no recording of this performance ....

  • Thank you soooo much!

How could there be no recording of this performance ....
