The Kalichord is a physically inspired electro-acoustic folk instrument using what the designers call the "busker," model, which is something that could be used by a street performer. This requires a simple, portable interface and the ability to play bass and melody parts at the same time. For this, they developed a plucked instrument that used metal tines as the control input for melodic parts and a series of buttons to control an accompanying bass part, a kind of hybrid between a kalimba and accordion.
I'm so impressed not only your musicianship and the uniqueness of your interface, David, but by the concept of using piezo film to activate computational models of string vibration instead of digital audio samples. Brilliant!
