From the 1973 album KE32746. I think this song stands the test of time. I hope Kelly Jay and the boys don't mind. I mean nothing but respect. I'll never forget puffing with Kelly when he played at the Brockdan in Sudbury in the 70's.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN TRAGEDY - Crowbar 1973

(spoken)
You know they say every man
Has at least one good story to tell
But Alan Delaney had two

Em picked (spoken word)
One's a story about a woman who loved him
And gave him two sons
But couldn't forget them bright lights
God that made him sad
The others a story about tryin' to be an honest man
And that killed him.

You see Alan Delaney pushed a steering wheel
Up and down the west coast
That is until the local four nineteen moved in
Baaad buncha pirates

Seein's how Alan owned his own rig
They talked to him about carrying these little bundles
From San Francisco to Vancouver
Well he knew they wouldn't take no for an answer
So he decided it was time to relocate
Waaay up in the interior of British Columbia

Em (sung)
Well they coaxed that old Chrysler three more miles
And they drifted into Mon Branch(?) at ten
Unpacked the kids fourteen bags of groceries
And gently carried Mary Jane in

(chorus)
A
And the Rockies gonna getcha
E
one way or another F#
If the sky is your father B
Then the mountains are your mother
A
I've been searchin' all day for you D A
but you're nowhere near to be found
A
I've been looking everywhere B E
but you're just not around
A
What have I done where have you gone D F#m7
will you be back again A
Well I'll be waiting here for you E A
And I'll wait 'til I don't know when
D A
Come back again
E A
I'll be waiting here for you D A
Come back again
E A
I'll wait 'til I don't know when

(spoken)
You know a couple of winters on the high chaparral
Kinda have a healin' effect on a man's mind
The boys were a big help
Mary Jane's sure she's gonna have a girl this time
And old Flat Rate's bound to sell him that Detroit Diesel
Things were aces for Alan Delaney

(sung)
And then last years model a nineteen thirty two coupé
Hit him at the runaway
Threw a whisky bottle
Whisky bottle full of gas
exploded as he hit the pass
And at sixty-five he didn't like his luck

(chorus)
And the Rockies gonna getcha
One way or another
If the sky is your father
Then the mountains are your mother
What was it that I done to you
To make you up and leave
Have I been blind to my own self
To hurt you then not see
What have I done where have you gone
Will you be back again
Well I'll be waiting here for you
And I'll wait 'til I don't know when
Come back again
I'll be waiting here for you
Come back again
I'll wait 'til I don't know when

(spoken)
Mary Jane turned off the radio made herself a coffee
And sat there pickin' at the linoleum
She realized she wasn't pinin' for the city any longer
Alan had made her and the boys a good home out here in the mountains
And she agreed that when he came home that night she'd tell him
But just as it's written
When one door opens another closes

(sung)
The scars on the pavement shows the point of entry
He had chosen the hard way to the valley floor
And as those cedars ricochetted off the Reo's fenders
He took a breath and crossed himself and thought of her once more

(chorus)
And the Rockies gonna getcha
One way or another
If the sky is your father
Then the Rockies are your mother

(break)

(chorus x 2)
Come back again
I'll be waiting here for you
Come back again
I'll wait 'til I don't know when
