Al Jazeera English Launches!

The English language channel has officially launched today, 15/11/2006 12PM GMT. Broadcasting from 4 broadcast centers, London, Washington DC, Kuala Lumpur and Doha. Station promises to be the voice of the south, providing a 360 degree view of the world.

I refuse to watch CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC because I am sick of their bull. All I watch is Al Jazeera English, and ocassionally, Press TV for shits and giggles.

I wouldn't compare Cho Seung-hui's rants on NBC and Pekka-Eric Auvinen's air time to al-jazeera's decision to air Hezbollah's, Al-qaeda's, Chavez's propaganda videos, they had and still have an option not to air their videos, they air their videos in any case which tells something about al-jazeera's values and who it wants to court. I recall Gerry Adams' and Martin McGuinness' voices were even muted at one time on British tv channels.

You should look into getting a FREE TO AIR (FTA) dish. A small 30" FTA motorized system can be had for about $300 total and you'll get hundreds of channels FREE (many foreign and religious broadcasts) but still well worth the price..... Google "sadoun" for more info.. It's where I bought my system.. Nice people..

I have a FTA Dish and watch Al Jazeera (as well as PressTV, RT, and CCTV News) on occasion. It does give a different slant on the News, and although widely criticized, I find Al Jazeera's reporting to be much less bias than MSNBC. Al Jazeera's coverage of the 2008 US Presidential election was top rate and some of the best coverage anywhere. This alone justifies the few hundred bucks that it costs of a small Free To Air (FTA) system.

I love this channel. I wish they'd show it in America. Glad I can watch it live online here on YouTube. Long live Al Jazeera. Best part of the network are their "Witness" documentaries.
