The protesters: It depends on the city, some did trash the areas. However, there are logical reasons for them requiring permits, such as here in Seattle they disrupted several charity events, so yeah. Certain areas they needed to be respectful of other gatherings but were not.
SOPA/PIPA may be stalled, but people, remember this. They will try to resurrect them at a moment's notice. We have to out-wait them until we can replace the politicians.

To paraphrase the fine folks at Steam,
You can never eliminate piracy or any sort criminal activity for that matter. You have to provide a better service than the ones offered by the criminals and incentivize paying for what you offer.
Essentially, stop trying to end online piracy with broad, sweeping motions on the behalf of the film and music industries: tell those people to give us a reason to pay for whatever they're selling.

It really pains me to say this but if that bill passes ill have to wage internet war against america.
