@davidstar260: So far going through your name i can see its purely western ... so you have to be a person from a third world to know how it feels like when someone behaves with you as a slave by capturing your Visa.
and yes Americans and others did have slaves but that was until end of 18th Century.... but aren't we living twentieth century?
we can see a real racism in you,sir- which is as same as the Emiratis.

@davidstar260: you have to know about their recent world a bit more. Most of the the Muslim countries controls the international labors by holding the positions of their Passports. Did you know that.

F.Y.I.
DUBAI IS THE LAND OF FORTUNE AND MISERY....NOT TO ALL BUT TO SOME. THE GOVT. OF DUBAI IS DOING ALL THE BEST TO SUPPORT THE LIFE OF THESE POOR PEOPLE.
BUT IF YOU RE ANALYSE THE SITUATION, IT IS THE EMPLOYER WHO IS MAKING THE LIFE MISERABLE TO OTHERS. I , A HIGHLY QUALIFIED ONE ( MASTER DEGREE HOLDER) IS EVEN THOUGH THE JOB THAT I DO IS THAT OF A SECRETARY. IT IS THE PRO SECTION OF EACH COMPANY WHICH CHEATS THE WORKERS .

It's disgraceful how these poor South Asian workers are being treated. There should be amnesty for all those labourers that wish to be repatriated back to their country of origin.

To be honest the video doesn't address the main problems and I use to live in the UAE. The labour camps are dreadful but some of them are in decent conditions. Many labourers do enjoy some dignities and others don't. The problem is that "some" UAE nationals behave as they like with workers and the government don't enforce the law on exploitation and human rights abuses. The police often sidelines with the locals unless you have a Western nationality.

Other countries may have done the same. However this was in the past, and like many i would like to think that human's have the ability to progress and learn from the past. Thats the creative drive of humans, to remember the past through language and other mediums in order to make a better future. Simply stating that its fair to exploit workers simply because it has been done before is pretty bloody pessimistic and non-progressive.
David, they're charged $3,000-5,000 for the visa; most of it is deducted from their salaries; so they CAN'T leave as they please until the visa fee is paid in full; that's why their passports are confiscated. Like it or not that's call human rights abuses. And, yes, many countries are guilty of similar violations, including the US. But that doesn't make it right, whether it's the US or UAE.
