  • Hey Les,

Thanks this makes perfect sense. I have 2 questions. Do you have any tricks for "polishing" the ports? And do you also trim the gasket since it will be between the head and intake?

  • @mflores910 The CJ gasket is larger then port. So no need of adjustment there!

  • For those that are watching this my Mustang went 9.954 @ 133Mph. with these heads..

  • I searched on the Internet and finally found this. Very useful..Thanks

  • Good.. I'm glad it helped.. If there is any thing I can help on or ya just got a question.. Give me a shout!

  • ok...this will work really great..but my point is...the intake hole diameter vs. the bolt diameter is a loose fit...also the bolts in the threads rock in their holes...this rock when assembled cant compare to a dowel pins when assembled. Overall its not possible to reassemble the intake on the heads and expect exact match twice...too much shift. Dowel pins will keep location exact.. When you assemble manifold you will notice a shift.. Dowel pins eliminate shift...just my opinion..

  • Your opinin is welcome.. Thank you!

  • In addition to the comment below... The method I described also gives you a relative height of the Intake manifold port in relation to where the heads ports are located. Often times to get a good floor to floor or roof to roof transition from the intake manifold to the head requires thicker intake manifold gaskets, or the manifold would have to be milled to get better initial height alignment prior to porting. It does make a difference.

  • TOTALLY THE WRONG WAY TO PORT MATCH AN INTAKE! There is no account for block deck height, dowel pin variation, casting variations, port location, heads may have been milled. Best way is to mock the heads on the block with head gaskets, align the intake gaskets on the head. Tape the intake gasket ends to the heads, put a small amount of silicone on the tape. Bolt Intake manifold on. Let silicone set up. Peel back tape holding the gasket to the head, remove intake. Gasket is perfectly positioned.

  • That hammering sounds like a chevy idling!!!!!!

  • I have a question, I know that you can open the actual exhaust port opening more to match the diameter or atleast come close to the gasket diameter for whatever exhaust you're going to run, be it Headers or original manifold, but as you go down into the port do you keep the same diameter or does it sort of close in as you reach the bottom?

  • my dooe-r heads are way biger lol lots of fun

  • Excellent idea. If you use the round end of a ball-peen hammer, you will get a sharper edge on your template. That is an old shade tree mechanic's trick for making gaskets.

  • hmmm i just pick up a 460 for my 5.0 coupe what do you think it would run with just a mild port job a cam (what size cam you think i should run )and single plane intake ..car already has a 9inch with 373 and a c6 with a 300 conveter
