The Thin Line Between Love and Hate [[chapter 61]]

Angela: I cant believe you!

Joe: I know ok? I Screwed up big time. I regret every minute of it. I lost the best thing that happened to me.

I looked at the box again.

Angela: What is that?

Joe: Its a promise ring. But I shouldnt have bought it.

Amy: You bought it while you were cheating on her?

Angela and Amy both smacked my head.

Joe: Ow. Im a guy we dont exactly think.

Angela: You got that right.

Joe: I just wish there was a way I could make this up to her. I love her, and i- I cant be without her. Before we left James asked if I still loved your sister, and I stumbled, because I did, but with her change and everything, I didnt think that she loved me like she used to. And then she told me she loved me, but I felt like she was just saying that to please me, so I stuttered saying it back. And for some reason after we left I felt like maybe we werent in love, sure we cared for each other, but maybe it wasnt love, well thats what my head was telling me, my heart told me I loved her more than life itself, but my head pushed what my heart felt aside. And when Camilla called, I wanted to see if I could have what you guys have. You all looked so happy to see Nick and Kevin when they got off the bus. And Kelsey looked at you guys enviously. Thats why I considered that maybe she didnt love me anymore. And so I let Camilla into my life. And when I kissed her, I felt so guilty, and thats when I knew that I Loved Kelsey. And so I distanced myself from her. I had just hurt her and she didnt even know it. but I still bought the ring, and continued to see Camilla. And when I got back and I saw Kelsey. I knew how wrong I was. How much I had hurt her. And then she saw me and Camilla and thats when I knew I was losing the best thing that ever happened to me.

Amy: Wow.

Kevin: Yeah.

Amy: hold on my phones ringing. Hello? Kelsey? Slow down. Tell me whats wrong.

I sat up worried.

Amy: Well be over in a sec.

Angela: What's wrong?

Amy: the police called Kelsey, apparently Steve has escaped from prison.

Joe: What?!

I jumped up and ran out the door.

Amy: Joe I dont know if its a good thing for you to go-

I didnt listen. I heard everyone else follow me. I ran over to Kelseys house and walked in she walked downstairs with a baseball bat.

Kelsey: Joe! dont scare me like that!

Joe: sorry.

Kelsey: what are you doing here?

Joe: Im making sure youre ok. I heard about st-

Kelsey: Dont say his name.

Joe: Ok. Sorry.

The others came in the house and saw Kelsey with her baseball bat.

Angela: you know Kelsey, Joe isnt a pinata. But if you really want to hit him. I give you permission.

I glared at her and Kelsey rolled her eyes.

Kelsey: just because I hate someone doesnt mean that Im going to hit them with a baseball bat.

I winced at the word hate. Angela just shrugged her shoulders.

Angela: suit yourself.

Apparently she was still mad at me for breaking Kelseys heart. I went up to Kelsey and she backed away.

Joe: Please, can you give me a chance to explain?

Kelsey: Joe, now is really not the time.

Joe: and when will it be? Huh? In 15 years? 30? 50?

Kelsey: I think youre over exaggerating.

Joe: No I think youre over exaggerating.

Kelsey: oh Im sorry, but my boyfriend cheats on me, I catch him, break up with him. Im sorry if Im upset.

Joe: No thats not what I meant. What I meant is that you keep saying you hate me when I know you dont.

I kept walking towards her and she kept stepping back, until she was trapped by the wall.. she dropped the baseball bat and gulped.

Joe: I know you dont hate me. I know you still love me, and I still love you.

Kelsey: n-no i- I dont.

I got closer to her.

Kelsey: I hate you.

I got even closer.

Joe: Do you Kelsey? Do you really?

Kelsey was trying to find the words to say. I leaned down looking into her eyes. She was lost for words.

Joe: look me in the eyes, and tell me you hate me.

Kelsey: i- i

I raised my eyebrow. She looked away from me.

Kelsey: I cant.

She looked up at me.

Kelsey: but it doesnt mean that I love you Joe. You hurt me.

Joe: Please Kelsey-

Kelsey: I have other things to worry about right now. Ok?

I sighed and backed away from her.
