"no one cares until they need us"

it's now my goal as a retired member to wake all these "kiddies" in college up to what we do. i wear my jacket with my unit patches with pride all the time. I wear my uniform on memorial day and veteran's day and 9/11... you should see their faces! All three are always around the beginning of a semester. yep "kiddies" that's why this "old man" is still in school.

And you know what? It's my badge of honor. I'm Semper Pi

Once a Coastie. always a Coastie. My old man was CG in ww2 and served with pride. I enlisted and served in Viet Nam.  We will always take care of our own because nobody ever cared about us.

Just wanted to say this it took the Coast Guard 60 years to give to my dad his rank to motor machinist mate 1st class and his purple heart for his service durning WW2 while on a combat patrol in the North Atlantic hunting subs. He served from jan 17 1942 to dec 20th 1943 when a german U boat hit his ship in the engine room , my dad saved his ship and the crew, while all the time being injured and traped in the engine room.

Semper Fidelis is Marine Corps. I had the honor of being in the Navy Sea Cadets at MCAS El Toro back before it was shut down.

I served in the United States Coast Guard though, so to every Marine I see, I say "Semper Fi from a Semper Pi"

good luck in October. Keep your head on straight. Try to multi-task as your doing pushups, and remember. No matter how bad it may seem, no matter how stressful it can be, it's so you earn that life-ring. It's all worth it in the end.

@billdo76 Oh, breaking the law isn't the issue. Being pushed around, disrespected, and delayed is the issue. We wait months for the NMC to process our paperwork so we can sail and put food on the table. An AB friend of mine waited almost an entire year for his new Z-card to arrive, and couldn't do his job until they did. Junior Petty Officers come onto our ships to sneer at us and tell 20-year Chiefs and Captains that they don't like the way we do things -- within the law. It's absurd
