  • 3 of 5? Common Smuttynose IPA is one of the best IPA's available. I realize taste is relative but if you're reviewing beer try to be fair. 3 of 5 isn't fair.

  • @kpoconnor Thanks for commenting. Maybe I have had it too many times but it simply doesn't do as much for me. Their Big A is better.

  • I'm surprised your drinking such an aged example of this beer. Lots of alpha acid oxidation by this point, which is probably why it didn't blow you away. Try it fresh and I bet you'll love it even more!

  • @oteyj You are probably correct. But thanks for your input. I seem to recognize your nickname from ratebeer.

  • Thanks for watching and commenting. I need to do some more Smuttynose reviews since they rally are the best known NH brewery outside NH.

  • No offense taken. It just didn't blow me away. But I probably should have gone higher. Their Oak-Aged IPA is excellent. I haven't gotten around to that one yet. I am fairly new at this honing my rating skills. One of my favorite IPA's is Avery Maharaja. That one has a punch to it and is memorable in every way. I appreciate and thank you for your comments.

  • @geoffolehane

Thanks. I thought after posting the comment it was a wee bit crass. Have you sampled Smuttynoses Big A IPA? They are rolling it out in four-packs. It is a unique take on an IPA. Take care. I look forward to future reviews!

  • You are giving this a three out of five! Wow! Not to judge your taste for this style of beer, but with what other IPA's are you comparing this to? Smuttynose's Finestkind IPA is truly a distinctive IPA. This beer with its high-hop intensity should be placed among the likes of a striking IPA such as Stone Brewerys Ruination IPA. I do not want, or wish, to offend your palate, but I think this beer should be rated at the very least a 4.5, using your rating scale.
