@crimsonrush IMO, I think that in the music world, Brian Wilson is universally regarded as a genius. I love Laura Nyro's music and might put her on par with Carole King, possibly a bit above King. Although King had more hits ( both for herself and others ), Nyro had a unique and eclectic style not heard before or since. Glad she is finally entering the R and R Hall of Fame.

@eyedoc1956 Well, Wilson and Bacharach. As for the rest, I think you maybe a little liberal with the term 'genius'. Rundgren laughs at them. :) Other than that, spot on. :)

@TheEmilyrose30 I named my daughter "Emily" [born 1984] after this song too [and Simon & Garfunkel's "For Emily..."]. Wasn't even considering this name, but these fine artists haunted me with it! I miss Laura so much...Alexis

An undeniable musical genius. On par with Brian Wilson, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, James Taylor, Carole King and Bacharach....but with less recognition. That's unfortunate. Laura rejected many invitations to perform before the camera, thus the paucity of footage. However, all singer-songwriters recognize her impact on modern pop music.
She is still sorely missed.

My mom named me after this song after seeing her in concert while she was pregnant with me in 1978. If I remember correctly, Laura was having a baby too and said that if it was a girl she would name her Emily. My mom always called me Emmie too. She passed away 15 years ago & this was such a sweet reminder of her today!! Love you mom!
