  • what is so mind boggling about this track

    is

both keyboards and guitar at some point lay out or at least lay back (to regroup? catch their breath? refocus?)

but the drum part is set on full tilt the entire way thru

it is simply an amazing demonstration of stamina and concentration

you can listen to this 10 times straight

and STILL not hear all the drum artistry

who's to say who's the best but simon phillips has to be on the short list

  • Sounds like Simon's response to Cobham's "Quadrant 4".

Jan hammer does some amazing drumming on this album too.........in fact....so good that everybody just assumes Simon did it.....which he could.

  • JEFF F***ING BECK!!!

  • JEFF F**KING BECK!!!

  • Please post "Star Cycle"! thanks!

  • Alex Van HALEN is both a Simon Phillips and Billy Cobham fan, definitely influenced Hot for Teacher. Also listen to Virgil Donati's - SPACE COCKTAIL

  • @frembling Oh yea, Hot for Teacher's drums pattern is influenced by this.

  • How can anyone dislike this?????? I see stupid people.

  • Jeff Beck...... awesome.

  • Hey kid drummers! Have you heard the phrase "play on top of the beat"? Well, this is what that means. It does not mean rush the beat. It means, hit that pulse that screams energy. Simon Phillips: BAD-ASS MO-FO!!

  • Now that's some playin' Yeah!

  • Perhaps this is where Van Halen got the basic idea for HOT FOR TEACHER. I remember seeing hot for teacher on a Les Paul Tribute-thing several years ago and it was intense! Better than Van Halen's version, except no vocals. Anyway..nice post. This song rocks. Love the Ronnie Scott's version too. JIM. ps I posted some Jeff Beck at my channel not too long ago if you want to check it out. Some neat 1995 shows w. bozzio/ Hymas/ and Paladino.
