You need to follow the manufacturer's instructions. They do sell a primer and some substrates do require being primed first. This is the descriptions fro our website on the primer: "An acrylic latex coating formulated to bond to galvanized metal, aluminum, tin, and other smooth metal surfaces." Also, Hammerite itself must be properly applied. Again from our website: "Recoats should be applied within 4 hours, before curing begins." We hope this helps.

tried it does not work, rust reformed shortly after use. Rustoleum is much better.

You must use Hammerite following the manufacturer's directions. If not done properly, it will not prevent rust. However, this product is far superior to Rustoleum as that product does not prevent rust indefinately.

@JamestownTV Well is it possible to remove old paint on a car, then put hammerite on then the paintjob itself?

@lillskiten1337 We sell paint, not manufacture it. What you are asking is not under the application guidelines. Because of this I can't recommend it, however the techs at Hammerite may know if it's compatible. :)

@JamestownTV Ok well im interested in painting in such a way because i wish to own a vintage car, and i want it to last a lifetime more, i do not want to search for spare parts so i dont need to work with rust. That is why i wonder if such a method is possible to go by.

Hello, Sandydogy Hammerite has been around in the U.K for donkey's years, the reason your coating reacted in bad weather was probably due to grease being on the item prior to painting, also for external stuff I personally prefer to give the item a prep coat of Hammerite Kurust, dries in 15 mins and gives the existing rust nowhere to go whilst leaving a grease free surface use gloves too to eliminate grease from your hands.

I painted some car ramps made from steel as you say Hammerite is a self priming paint so why it rained has my pain reacted?
