  • Wow...I remember the crowd blowing the roof off when Shirley Verrett sang this at one of her recitals, and this was equally impressive (and reminded me of Verrett at times). Thanks for posting!

  • Orribile, schifoso

  • @MisterPapageno What you just wrote might have made some sense if it wasn't for "I wish countertenors stop singing the female contralto roles because they don't have the capacity!". With that one sentence you have managed to disqualify everything by exibiting extreme prejudice and generalising the entire matter into two supposedly opposed sides. That is extremely superficial and definitely not based on purely musical or vocal standards.

  • @serenaluce It's not a crime to like CTs, but saying they are correct in Rossini yes.

    If Rossini wanted to have the parts sang by CTs or castratos, he had them (very few). So there is a musical and historical reason to prefer contraltos, which is not an opinion: it's history!

    Then, there is the technical reason: "studied" countertenors like Manzotti do not have the powerful low/high register, the homogeneity over 2 and half octaves that a contralto voice has. Podles is rude singing but awesome

  • @lalagonegaga [3] 4:30 is this a free high notes? He just managed to do it by luck... 6:12 almost screamed medium high note; 6:20 weak voice in the passaggio, as said befaore! etc etc

    Furthemore the expression is very weak and with no sense... I don't have nothing personal with Manzotti, except he just has to do the proper repertoire for his voice, not singing something he can't technically sing. I wish countertenors stop singing the female contralto roles because they don't have the capacity!

  • @lalagonegaga [2] I have already written the motivations:

    1) out of repertoire - belcanto female contralto role, nothin to do with old castratos or countetenors;

    2) too many flaws in singing (not homogeneous register, the voice is screamed in TEmer and usually high notes, the low register around the passaggio is whitened and pale, and some low notes very weak, the high SI (B) is just touched in vocalises, which means he doesn't have it substained, 3:33-3:36 voice is forward and backaward)

  • @lalagonegaga Oh come on, I didn't say anything bad about Ewa Podles, but I find her version ugly, and prefer CT singing in general to such low female contraltos. I can agree that she is great and a phenomenon, but I prefer the best countertenor singing to any women's while MisterPapageno always tries to prove somehow female superiority over men. Is it a crime to find special MAGIC in CT voices?Concerning trolling,noboby even can't express that PJ isn't a CT but a POP FALSETTIST, market product?

  • @MisterPapageno And in what way exactly may it be anti-singing? Could you explain to me in detail why do you consider it the denial of singing? I have heard literally thousands of singers in my life and I don't really find anything in Manzotti's voice that might inspire such negativity. He may not be as good as say Daniels or Minenko, but he is definitely not quite as bad as to provoke so much venom-spitting.

  • @lalagonegaga I beg your pardon, lalagonegaga, because this is a video uploaded by you, so this is your space. I continue saying this piece sung by Manzotti is anti-singing, it's the denial of singing!

  • @MisterPapageno @serenaluce Excuse me, I just have to join this "discussion" that has long passed the limits of common decency. Taste is taste and I can respect that, but calling someone's performance "bullshit" is a bit too far fetched for my standards. I personally like Manzotti, adore Ewa Podles and am annoyed by Jaroussky (just an example) but I don't go around spitting venom around and trolling his videos (or anyone else's). So could you both just chill out a bit? Please? :)
