Hi again. Currently, I don't have so much free time to record videos, but I took some just to record this new one, mainly as a "presentation in society" of my new Gene Simmons Cort Axe bass. While it definitely cannot be compared with my EBMM Bongos or my Steinberger, this is a cool and decent instrument. Its only real flaw, in my opinion, is the upper strap pin over the 19th fret, which makes the bass really uncomfortable. But aside from that, I think it exceeds the expectations of a cheap (less than $500) bass made in Korea. Mine is completely stock.

About the song: Well, I think there's not so much to say about it, since most rock bassists know and enjoy this cool riff created by the great Justin Chancellor. I added a slow motion demonstration at the end of the video. Also, I had to add the effects in my PC since I couldn't find a whammy effect in my Zoom unit. I'm not really satisfied with the result (specially because the swelling in the whammy section was ruined by the effect I used), but it's the best I could find and do at home. Hope you enjoy it, anyway. Thank you so much for watching! :^)

P.S.: BTW, it seems that I'm the first on YouTube that plays the hammered-on triplets with middle/pinky. Nothing wrong about playing them with index/ring, but the way I play it gives the added benefit of economy of motion (which I consider a very important aspect of playing technique for any instrument), so that's why I encourage everybody to practice it that way. It definitely demands even more accuracy in your fretting technique, but that's not a bad thing, isn't it?

  • I've heard that this bass is pretty... er, terrible :s How do you find it? Cool cover anyway...

  • @Arachnidius: Thank you for your comment! To me, this bass is so fun to play. The stock electronics sound real nice in the bedroom, but in a live band situation the tone gets buried very easily. I put an EMG PJ set on mine and that made a lot of a difference. Also, the bass is pretty uncomfortable to play due to the strap pin location. A Steinberger Synapse strap hook is a terrific solution to that problem. This bass isn't meant to be played whilse seated, BTW.

  • Oh, gosh, this axe sounds like a bass guitar :O

  • I guess if it's your thing then it's your thing but damn that's a fucking ugly bass. If I were given it I would just hope to find an idiot willing to give me money for it.

  • Hey man great cover.. but as an experienced bass player you need to slow down and get each of those hammerons with their own thumpy sound. you smashed them all together. But nice rhythm.

  • Nice AXE!

  • gene simmons bass AND emg's ... you fucking idiot

  • @Arachnidius Seems more like a novelty than an actually playable instrument.

Frankly, I don't thing that any self respecting metal player would even bother with this thing.
