Just seeing how hard Judy struggles not to laugh at Mickey's drum antics convinces me that theirs was a lovely and rare friendship. I love that he could give her such a giggle.

Judy Garland....what a talent and a tragedy! Other than Mickey Rooney no one gave a damn about her including her own mother! Her family and friends saw her nothing more than a money train.

Fact: Frances Ethel Gumm (Judy) was signed to her first film contract at MGM in 1935. Joe Yule (Mickey) starred in the Mickey McGuire series of shorts beginning in 1927. He was signed to MGM in 1934 and played Blackie as a child in Manhattan Melodrama (the last film John Dillenger saw before being gunned down). Mickey and Judy were first paired in Thoroughbreds Don't Cry (1937) and their last was Words and Music (1948). This clip, from Judy's weekly TV show (1963-64).

He was a devoted friend friend to her.....unlike many who just used her and turned their backs on her. She accomplished so much in just the short time she was around. I am just 33, and I prefer this over the "stuff" of today.......if I could have only been born much earlier.

Apparently he threw himself on her coffin at her funeral. They were so cute together.

I may be the biggest Garland/Rooney fan in the world but never have seen this segment of her show before; they still have the same chemistry and it's a joy to watch.

Rooney wass top box office attraction in 1938 (and for long thereafter) when the somewhat less-known Garland joined him the first of their movies together. While Garland had a boatload of talent, "Love Finds Andy Hardy" helped showcase that talent and served as a springboard for her. Then came "The Wizard of Oz", and the rest is history.
YOUR WAY OFF!!! Mickey never used her for his own fame>in those days MGM controlled their every move, they did what they were told. Mickey was famous in his own right!! Best known for Andy Hardy. Mickey loved her like a sister, They were very close FRIENDS. Its been said he tried to help her several times even at the very end taking her right to his doctor who had helped him when he had hit bottom. A person has to want to help themselves in order for it to work. He couldn't do it for her.
