When I was last in Santiago de Cuba, in November of 2007, I had brought the video seen on YouTube of Diana Rodriguez and Yanek Revilla dancing in the finals of the 2005 Cuban salsa championships. One day I was able to show it to her and it turned out to be the first time she saw it at all. It's just a clip from cuban television, but she hadn't even seen it on teve and was quite surprised that, as I put it, she was now a star on the Internet.

I have no detailed contact information but she works at the Conjunto Folclórico de Oriente, which you one could try to contact if in Santiago de Cuba. They rehearse in the Teatro Heredia close to Plaza de la Revolución. Yanek seems to have been travelling to Europe and teaching here as can be seen in various YouTube videos. I believe it's thru the Cúbamemucho organisation.

The lady in the background is the landlady of the house where I rented a room.

It's all I can say. I'll be in Santiago in July for the Carnival. For sure I'll try to meet her. Thanks for the video, and the tip :o)

  • What is so interesting is that she's not watching herself in anyway critically. She's actually enjoying the music like and sorta dancing sitting down. She's smart. She knows the music is what's important. Very Cuban this girl. And so lovely!

  • It's cool to see how the music moves her even when she's sitting down. :-)

  • sabroso .

  • I met her in Munich when she came to teach at Cubamemucho. She is a wonderful person and an amazing dancer!!! It's beautiful to see this video and her reaction as she is watching... Thank you!
