Powell was wrong about black people as a group. However he was entirely right about unrestricted immigration causing social and political problems. Heath sacked him but he was a hypocrite. When in power Heath rightly passed the Immigration Act 1971. The message from Government should be clear. If you want to live here then obey the law, speak English and integrate. Remove the word black from his speech and replace it with muslim and Powell would be regarded today as a seer.

Don't confuse the two points that arise from this speech.
Yes, Powell was racist in the sense that he wrongly stereotyped and judged people by their ethnic origin and his message was clumsily delivered because of this.
He should have listened to Martin Luther King's words first. Judge a man by the content of his character and not by the colour of his skin.
BUT his message that the careless growth of multiculturalism will lead to bloodshed is spot on. We need a united identity.
