@superfroh I was using the 12 volts from the computer power supply and I just wanted to separate them just in case of any interference. I bought another switch mode supply with 5 and 12 volt outputs.
I rebuilt the rotary attachment tonight as well with a size 17 stepper geared down 4.5:1 because the 50:1 wave drive wasn't suitable for PHCad because I couldn't get the pulses/mm right. the software didn't seem to want save the 800 pulses needed for the jobs I was doing. Now it's pretty accurate

@baccus61 another thing which i read is that you also changed a 12 volt suply. Was that for the dsp controller? And what kind of laser supply do you use?
good luck with your machine

thanks for the quick reply. We use a servo system with a self made toroidal trafo at 52 volts incl. bridge recitifer and Cap-array. We indeed also found the engraving offset settings. After some testing we noticed that the offset we get on a x-swing engraving changed depending if the laser had to fire multiple times in one line. If the laser had to fire for something in front of it the next part on the line comes actually to late in regard to it's intended position.

@superfroh Hi Superfroh, I changed the power for the stepper motors NOT the laser power supply. It was just a simple toroidal transformer and a bridge rectifier with a 20KMf Capacitor.
I swapped the supply with a 48 volt switch mode power supply for $38. Don't forget there is an option in PHCad for the offset that you set up in the options menu. Something like, if you engrave at 50mm/sec set it to 0.20 and 200mm/sec set it to 0.40.
But as you said, you changed a lot of settings already. Thnks

@baccus61 Interresting to hear you solved your problem. We have te same Dsp and also an offset which varies. We did change and adjusted a lot of things but not yet the power supply. Do you refer to the power suply of the laser you changed or the steppers?
-
@baccus61 glad to hear that the offset is sorted, strange that it was the power supply.
don't worry about the wobbly camera:-)
-
Yes I did. The change in power supplies actually mad all the difference in the world. I don't know the reason why the supply would cause the laser to engrave with a 1mm offset but it must have as the problem went away after changing it out. It's taken me about 1 1/2 years to find the problem. Who would have thought it would be that.
Thanks for looking and sorry for the wobbly cam. I'll get that sorted out next time.

nice!!
did you end up sorting your tracking problems from your other "laser problems" video?
How is the temperature on the motors with the new power supply.
Tinycontrols 7 months ago
@Tinycontrols The temp of the motors is about normal. Anywhere from 60 C to 80 C. Steppers are current driven so you can run them at 25 times the rated voltage but never any more than the rated amps or they will fail.
Thanks for looking..
