Elijah English, who aims to be the youngest president of the U.S., delivers his winning speech at the 19th Annual Gardere MLK Jr. Oratory Competition on Friday, Jan. 14 in Dallas. In his speech, he said it's "...your attitude not your aptitude that determines your altitude." This year's topic, which brought forth speeches ripe with hope and ambition, addressed the question, "How will you carry forward the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in your personal and professional life?" Presented in Dallas and Houston by the Texas-based law firm Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP, the competition commemorates the life of Dr. King and is designed to highlight the cultural diversity of the community while recognizing and encouraging the writing and presentation skills of elementary school students.
