A day in the lives of student nurses- on duty and during breaks!

NURSING DUTIES AS EXPERIENCED AND SEEN THRU THE EYES OF NURSING STUDENTS.

This is a collection of the vids me and my team made during our hospital duties.

The original team, composed of me, JR Delmendo, Joan Casin, Bernard Bautista, Lance Cadelina, Elaesa Elimanco, and Jayson Abriol-Santos, started this gig on the first quarter of 2007.

During the test vid, which was taken in Fabella, our purpose was just to get a video souvenir of what we did as students. As we posted our second episode at You Tube, our perspective on the video changed due to the positive comments from internet viewers. Upon learning that there are actually people wanting to see even just a glimpse of what we do, we decided to give it to them. THE WARD has now become a video project to be produced in series whenever possible.

Yes, we have viewers and subscribers from countries like the U.K., New Zealand, and the U.S.A. Some happen to be RN's who want to look back into what it has been like back when they were student nurses. Some watched to get a little more inspiration before they get into the field of healthcare.

So far, as of June 2009, we have produced 23 vids (including the test video), with episode 23 coming out soon. (These videos are still being edited and produced even if we've all graduated last March 2008!)

As we made it to our fourth year on March of 2007, things got difficult for us since there has been a reshuffling of sections in our batch, disbanding the original group.

Episode 5 covered the last days of the original team on duty at Kamuning Lying-in, while Episode 6 pays a video tribute to the original members.

Episode 7 features the new team which is composed of Mitch Young, Gerby Galanto, Cheenee Enaje, Monet Espinosa, and Sheena Cerda.

Episode 18 features a one-time episode with a different set of cast members accompanying THE WARD mainstay Mitch Young. They are Nica Albite and Geoff Go. The regular cast returns on episode 19 onwards.

Many thanks to the clinical instructors who have permitted us to cautiously shoot (under the grounds of educational purposes), while carefully taking into account not to offend or disrupt patient privacy. No patient's identity will be featured here. No, you won't even see their faces (they'd be censored at least!). Should there be body parts or extremities shown, we've asked permission from them. In no way do these vids intend to humiliate patients nor their conditions. Should there be humiliation, it's just among us student nurses picking on each other. It's only us student nurses who will be in the limelight. (Hey, it's about the lives of student nurses remember?)

Bear with us. We are student nurses and we also commit bloopers. What matters is that we (including you) learn from it. Also consider the differences on procedures being taught among different schools, and the set up we're at so take it easy on the reactions. :-)

This is THE WARD series. A project which will now serve as a video journal. A reminder, and perhaps a glimpse into the lives of student nurses for those wanting to satisfy their curiosity about nursing.

This is something we will look back to years from now- the things we did, the teammates we trained with, the instructors who passed on their skills, the shallow humor and horseplay done during breaks to vent out stuffs.

This is the story of our journey.

Thank you for continuously watching our vids. For those who subscribed and have been anxiously waiting for the next episode to come, thank you. I hope we gave you some inspiration the way your interest and viewing have inspired us likewise.

Again, many thanks to THE WARD's subscribers!

  • Eh di napanood mo rin pala mga travel vids ko in between posts ng THE WARD? Hahaha!

Depends sa hospital. Sa POC, 1 month orientation then 6 months stay per ward, then rotation. After a year, you can request to be assigned sa special areas like ER, OR, etc.

Kaso by that time baka nasa Canada na ako, haha!

  • Siyempre! hinihintay ko lagi bagong episode.

Wow. Congratulations! I am sure you'll be an excellent RN. Sa atin ba you get to work sa specific floor/department? or do you get to rotate to all the departments?

  • Wow, congratulations!

Advice... um, answer ka ng mga reviewers ng SAUNDERS tsaka KAPLAN, yung mga nasa CD-ROM na pang NCLEX style questions. It really helps. Tapos ask help narin- mag pray ka. Actually diyan ka mapapa-reflect- it's gonna be between you and the Lord na. Ask Him lang na i-guide ka.

Lord, I pray na you guide Kellycats for her board exam. May you prepare her well, and may you use her as instrument for Your greater Glory. In Jesus' name.

Ayan, sinama na kita sa prayer ko. Yeah!

  • Kellycats!!!!

Nanunuod ka pa pala ng THE WARD!!! Hahaha!!!

Guess what? I just got appointed today as nurse sa Philippine Orthopedic Hospital. Para akong bangag kanina when they called; takbo agad ako sa personnel office. May pics ako sa Friendster, nilagay ko, haha!

Anyway, yeah, that's a lesson for me- eat breakfast before duties, hahaha!

Nice to hear from you again! :-)
