Buddha Positions

These Buddhas are in the temple at the top of the mountain. I went to "monk chat" at the temple by my house and spoke with 5 Cambodian monks for an hour and a half. I learned a great deal about their lives and Buddhism. One of the questions I asked was about the different depictions of Buddha. Even though I was talking about the fat Buddha as compared to the stealthier looking Buddha shown here, they explained the different standing and sitting positions that Buddha that you see in this video. They represent the various stages of Buddha's life, such as his enlightenment, and some of the practices that the monks continue to this day, such as bringing bowls out to the street to get food donations from local people at 5:30 am.
