I did my own counter-pestering campaign by verbally undermining the ads. I also allowed my kid to eat whatever she wanted at parties, but she always chose wisely. Usually cake, not candy. Never McDonald's, etc. We are macrobiotic, so she got pretty sick from even one bite of that stuff. I kept some healthier, fun foods at home, like good quality ice cream occasionally, lots of fruit.

Gov't is not the solution. People should lobby the industry to make their food "healthier" or something to that effect, boycott, until they change their strategies etc...

Thank you John Robbins for your nobility and integrity. I think that we should go one step further and actually ban junk foods. When I was in Mexico, I was appalled by the number of pop bottles strews all around the countryside, and by how overweight even young children were. I look forward to the day when it is illegal to produce foods that are detrimental to the health of our children.

-these comment boxes don't allow returns... Anyway, we may be able to put enough pressure to get a law passed controlling advertising practices, but that is a hard way to go. Business responds to economics. If we refuse to buy what they sell, they will not sell it. If we request what we choose to buy, they will find a way to bring it to market. If we educate people, including our children, about what to eat and why, the demand will be for healthier food. Education rather than more laws.

I feel it would be a very hard fought battle to rally enough parents to put a meaningful amount of pressure on big business to make a difference.

I like that he mentions pedophiles. McDonalds and pedophiles lure kids with similar tactics.
