Red 91 Geo Metro LSi Convertible 4/4

This is how quietly the little red Geo zips down my quiet neighborhood street. As an added bonus, you get to see a neighborhood kid nearly wipe out on his tiny scooter as he tries to jump from the street to the sidewalk!

@paraglide01- I just looked myself on ebay, and didn't see any. What country are you in? I have seen them on ebay before, and actually bought a pair on ebay for my own cars. I will look through my past ebay transactions to see if I can find the eay seller who sold me my two catches.

Could you lend me a helping hand in this matter. I don't know where or what to look for on ebay. I tried geo metro convertible catch but got no results. Do you have any sugestions?

@paraglide01- Yeah, these roofs probably werent the best-designed ever, but, these little Geo convertibles were the cheapest on the market when new back in the 90's. I used those black rubber bungee cords to keep mine closed until I bought replacement catches off ebay. The metal hooks on each end of the bungee fit easily over the metal roof beam at the top, and to a metal bar behind the base of the center console at the bottom.

Thank you for your advice, I will have a go with the ebay search and try the wood/brick system. But I think your right about the plastic catches, the have large scratchmarks on the top en de metal lip that is suppost to slide in there only goes in half way. If I push hard from the inside the latch slips out off the catch. Scary shit when that happens with 120 km p/h on the freeway and the passengerside of the top flips open. I have it now secured with rope.

@paraglide0- Geos sold in the US in 1992 had 1.0 liter engines. Also, as far as getting a cold convertible roof closed, you can also ask someone to stand on the outside of the car, and press down where the front of the roof meets the top of the windshield. This downward force will help stretch the cold fabric, allowing you to close the two latches. If you do not have a helper, placing a couple heavy bricks on a piece of wood over the front of the roof will help you latch it closed.

@paraglide01- Those two black plastic catches wear out after repeated openings and closings. Replacement catches can be bought on ebay and installed rather easily. The convertible roofs on these Geos are very difficult to close in cooler or cold weather. Parking the car in the sunlight with the roof shut as much as you can get it will warm the inside of the car, and the roof. A warm roof will be easier to close.

Nice, I just purchased my first one today also a red one a 1.3 liter 1992 model and I paid just 550 euro's for it.

Now I have a question regarding the roof. The latches have difficulty snapping close could it be that the 2 catches on the top of the windshield are worn out. The roof is crappy so it wil be replaced but I have read somewhere that the vinyl when its cold shrinks a bit so the roof doesnt stretch far enough. do you know someting about that issue?
