Protect Local Access to Medical Cannabis Stop AB 2650!

Americans for Safe Access (ASA) needs your help to stop a bill that would make it harder to open medical cannabis collectives statewide. AB 2650 would require that new collectives be located at least 1,000 feet from schools in every city and county in California. We dont need another unnecessary hurdle to safe access in California. Call your Assembly Representative on the Appropriations Committee and ask him or her to vote no on AB 2650.

AB 2650 is sponsored by law enforcement lobbyists who oppose medical cannabis. This bill is an effort to roll back safe access to medicine under the guise of public safety. Research conducted by ASA shows that well regulated collectives reduce crime and complaints. In fact, collectives can help improve neighborhoods. There is no need to adopt a statewide rule that treats collectives like nuisances. We should let cities and counties decide what is best for their communities.

AB 2650 will be before the Assembly Committee on Appropriations on Wednesday, May 12. Can you please contact your Representative right away? Just follow these simple steps:

1. Visit http://192.234.213.69/amapsearch/framepage.asp or call 916-319-2856 to find out who is your Representative in the State Assembly.

2. Check the list below to find out if your Representative is on the Appropriations Committee.

3. If so, contact your Representative right away and ask him or her to oppose AB 2650.

4. If your Representative is not on the list below, contact Committee Chairman Felipe Fuentes (contact info below) and ask him to oppose AB 2650.

5. Finally, send me a quick note at don@safeaccessnow.org to let me know you called your Representative. This helps ASA gauge the efficacy of our grassroots action.

Sample Message to Your Representative:

I am a medical marijuana patient/supporter who lives in _____. I am asking you to oppose AB 2650 in the Appropriations Committee. This bill is unnecessary, and we do not need more barriers to safe access to medicine. Let cities and counties decide what is best for their neighborhoods.

You can find more information on AB 2650 and ASAs opposition below the committee roster.

  • @Sheldonwh I realize you have no idea who I am what I've been able to accomplish in the short amount of time I've been advocating on this issue. And I am going to keep on doing, some will be supportive, some will be critical but NONE can say I didn't give it everything I have.

  • @Sheldonwh I appreciate your feedback. This account isn't used to convince our opponents. It was created to reach our supporters. I use it to inspire and motivate our supporters into action.

Trust me, when I addressing our opponents, I am professional dressed and am mindful of their concerns.

Herbalicious = a delicious herb and that's what cannabis is to me. I appreciate your opinion but I am going to keep doing what I am doing because I know I am making a difference on this issue.

  • @HerbaliciousCA You don't do your side any favors by calling yourself "herbalicious," you know. I mean, I fully understand the medical benefits of marijuana (I'm a psychologist, btw), but the silliness and "hippie" attitude toward the issue simply fans the flames of the opponents.

  • If medical cannabis (aka, medical marijuana) were actually used for MEDICAL purposes, I'd be far more willing to fight for it. Unfortunately, every single person I know who receives it 1) got her/his card by simply filling out a form, and 2) SELLS most of it to their friends.

  • Good job Cheryl! Keep getting the word out there!

  • i appreciate what your doing
