  • I don't think there were ever two better looking or sounding people put on film. This indeed is pure magic. Another great video, thanks Baz.

  • I LOVE the look on his face when she began to sing this song so beautifully! I think the "so there!" look she gave him after she completed the song was priceless! I go back to this one so often; I enjoy it so much! Love, Liz

  • @Blaqjaqshellaq

I've got that book too and think it's harsh on them. Compared to most singers I never found NE's acting that bad (Pavarotti in 'Yes Giorgio' - nuff said!). He looked handsome in sometimes preposterous costumes saying downright daft dialogue in plots that were ancient in the 1930's but carried it all off with a fair degree of charm. Frankly who gave a darn about 'acting' when they sang.

  • The coffee-table book THE MGM STORY describes Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy as "a soprano who acted as if every nuance had to be understood in the back row of the opera house, and a baritone who didn't act at all."

  • @barrymotex Jeanette's name was originally spelled McDonald she added MAC and dropped the second N in her first name in 1921 when she was on Broadway. She died Jan.14, 1965 and Nelson Eddy DID NOT sing at her funeral, but her did attend it.

  • Jeanette MacDonald is the correct spelling of her name . An Angellic powerful voice which I do not believe can be duplicated or surpassed in range or power. And she was petite...sadly she died of congestive heart failure in 1962 in Houston Texas. Nelson Eddy sang at her funeral. RIP Jeanette

  • Jeanette McDonald was to me the absolute best soprano I have ever heard. What times..McDonald...Lanza ... Merrill ....

  • Thanks Baz.

Just browsing and this one always makes me laugh. One arrogasnt man gets put right in his place with a song...Love it.

    Di

  • Jeanette is one good soprano! I get goosebumps all over whenever I listen to her arias!
