*We apologize for the poor video quality at 4:35. This scene is of hearing people interacting at a round table.

Deaf Space is one of the many Deaf Gains present and mostly unharnessed in today's Hearing-centric world. The concept of Deaf Gain is one that believes that Deaf people have something to contribute to the Hearing world. This video explains the idea of Deaf Space and how if implemented in larger society, can benefit non-Deaf people as well.

This video was created for Jami Fisher's Deaf Culture Course at the University of Pennsylvania in Spring '10 by Meredith Turtletaub and Olivia Coffey. We appreciate your feedback on the concepts presented in this video.

  • I had never really thought about it; but, it would be great if all tables were round. Since being social is generally a primary motivation when going out to eat, it's strange that long rectangular tables are so common in restaurants.

    Nice video!
